Oslo Negativ Fotofestival

Oslo Negativ is an annual international photography festival held each October in Oslo. Since 2019, the festival has taken place in various locations throughout the city, featuring exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and artist talks over a period of three weeks.

In 2024, the festival was hosted at Oslo’s former veterinary college, transforming the old stables, operating rooms and laboratories into exhibition spaces.

The festival’s mission is to foster curiosity and engagement with photography, reaching an ever-expanding audience at a time when photography as a craft, art form, and tool for sharing information and knowledge is increasingly being challenged.

For the 2024 festival, Oslo Negativ introduced a new and simple visual identity. The goal of this updated design was to enhance name recognition, improve accessibility of information, and establish a cohesive and flexible layout system that highlights the photos.

Instead of developing a fixed brand color palette, we kept the base colors to black and white. In applications, colors were extracted from the images and applied to graphics and text. The result was a visually rich and ever-evolving design system that maintained consistency while allowing the images to take center stage.

Oslo Negativ is organized by the Oslo Negativ Foundation, a non-profit collaboration between the Preus Museum, The Møller Collection, various galleries and the photography community. In 2024, nearly 40 exhibitions showcased photography in all genres, styles, and expressions—from internationally renowned artists such as Andres Serrano to students and independent galleries. Previous editions have featured international photographers like Mandy Barker, Lynsey Addario, and Jonas Bendiksen.
